'BRICS Serves as Platform of Diversification of Risks': Expert on SA's Sidelining in G20

As the "BRICS countries now, within its expanded form, compose almost half of the G20," the grouping's support to South Africa in the G20 is a reflection of the coordination, Gustavo de Carvalho told Sputnik Africa.

"We believe that multilateral institutions are important; and we believe that we should have a stronger say in that. BRICS, in that sense, becomes a vehicle towards that."

Africa as a continent also needs to create more "spaces for coordination," not to always agree, but to ensure that when common positions exist, the continent works together more effectively, the expert added.
