Zambia Closes in on 1,000MW Solar Goal With Launch of Chisamba Phase II

President Hakainde Hichilema commissioned the new phase of the solar plant in Kafungalubala on Tuesday, the Zambian state-owned power company Zesco said in a statement.

"The commissioning supports the government’s agenda to diversify the energy mix, bridge the energy gap, and strengthen security of supply," it noted.

The plant—the second 100MW facility in the area in under a year—is part of an even bigger vision: 10,000MW of electricity production by 2030, "as part of a broader plan to create a single African power market," it stressed.
