SA is looking to strengthen two pillars of the state. Namely, its defense industry and its social grant system. In this Nnete Fela Show, we discuss the practical outcomes of the country's first Defense Industry Lekgotla and the government's plans to improve the delivery of social grants.
The inaugural Defense Industry Lekgotla brought together all its relevant role players within SA to agree on a practical roadmap for one of South Africa's most advanced industries. After years of shrinking budgets and policy uncertainty, the focus has shifted from identifying problems to implementing solutions that could grow exports, protect skilled jobs, and strengthen the country's strategic capabilities. Defense Minister Angie Motshekga believes the gathering achieved exactly that.
“They've identified what are the immediate things we have to do, zero to six months, and long-term things that would need us to really work through, like policy realignment. So, it was actually a very good meeting,” the minister says.
Later in the show, we examine the changes planned for South Africa's social grant system following a briefing by newly appointed Social Development Minister Dina Pule.
Join us if you're curious about whether these commitments can be turned into meaningful change for South Africa's economy and its people.
