African Atlantic Gas Pipeline Project: How is West Africa Responding?
West African leaders have hailed the Nigeria-Morocco Atlantic Gas Pipeline as a transformative project for regional integration, energy security, and industrialization, following the signing of the intergovernmental agreement on the sidelines of the ECOWAS summit in Sierra Leone.
Country reactions:
Ghana: FM Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa called the initiative "historic" and said his country is "proud to be an active member," emphasizing its role in African integration and industrialization.
Sierra Leone: FM Timothy Kabba described the project as "structuring" for West African integration and welcomed its expected economic momentum.
Liberia: President Joseph Boakai called it a "major advance" and a "transformative investment" for the region, proving that African cooperation takes precedence over fragmentation.
Togo: FM Robert Dussey said the project will strengthen regional integration and open up landlocked Sahel countries.
Gambia: FM Sering Modou Njie stressed that energy is vital for the development of all West African countries.
The pipeline, which will cross up to 13 countries and stretch nearly 6,800 km, was described by the ECOWAS Commission as a "transformative" initiative for regional economic interdependence.
