AfDB Approves $13 Million in Grants to Combat Ebola Outbreak in DRC, South Sudan, Uganda
The DRC, the epicenter of the outbreak, will receive $11 million, while Uganda and South Sudan will each receive $1 million, the AfDB said in a statement.
The funds will support:
▪early case diagnosis;
▪epidemiological surveillance;
▪community engagement;
▪public awareness;
▪regional coordination.
The outbreak was announced on May 15 in the DRC’s Ituri province and has since spread to North Kivu and South Kivu. The outbreak is caused by the new Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, for which there is currently no approved vaccine or specific treatment.
