Egyptian archaeologists have uncovered three rock-cut tombs dating to the New Kingdom at the Bubasteion Necropolis in Saqqara.
The excavation revealed:
hieroglyphic inscriptions;
important archaeological remains that provide new insights into Egyptian society during the New Kingdom.
Why It Matters:
The discovery reveals the identities and histories of the tomb owners, offering a deeper understanding of life during the period, Supreme Council of Antiquities Secretary-General Hisham Elleithy said.
The Tomb Owners:
▪Tomb 1: A senior administrative and military official from the early New Kingdom.
▪Tomb 2: The chief merchant of the House of Ptah.
▪Tomb 3: An overseer of the house (a high-ranking domestic or estate manager).
