ECOWAS States Sign Agreement Backing Nigeria-Morocco Atlantic Gas Pipeline

The project aims to unlock West Africa's natural gas resources, integrate regional energy markets, and strengthen energy links between Africa and Europe.

Route & Capacity

The pipeline will run from Nigeria to Morocco through 13 West African coastal countries.

Include connections for landlocked Sahel states.

Have an annual capacity of 30 billion cubic meters (bcm).

Direct up to 15 bcm toward Moroccan and European markets via the existing Maghreb–Europe Gas Pipeline.

Scale & Progress

Total length: Approximately 6,900 km (hybrid offshore-onshore route).

Estimated cost: Around $25 billion.

Current status: Feasibility study and front-end engineering design are now complete.

The next step will be the signing of an agreement between Morocco and Mauritania in the presence of Nigeria's president, paving the way for the project's next phase.
