Zimbabwe Accelerates Shift to Exclusive National Currency Use: Reserve Bank Chief
Zimbabwe is moving closer to using the ZiG for all domestic transactions, having met six of eight critical conditions, the governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), John Mushayavanhu, told local media.
According to him, key milestones already achieved include:
🟠Single-digit inflation, averaging 4.4% in the first half of 2026;
🟠A parallel market premium kept below 20%;
🟠Zero central bank financing of fiscal deficits.
To finalize the transition, the RBZ is expanding ZiG use for public payments, introducing new high-quality banknotes, and leveraging the World Bank’s Reserve Advisory and Management Partnership, the official noted.
