AI-Powered Digital Platform to Transform Onion and Garlic Farming in Tanzania: Researchers
Developed by Tanzanian researchers under a two‑year research program funded through the Higher Education for Economic Transformation initiative, the Pataintel platform provides farmers with timely, location-specific agricultural advice, the Institute of Accountancy Arusha announced.
Key details:
🟠The Pataintel platform offers tailored recommendations on land preparation, weather forecasts, pest and disease control, harvesting, and market access.
🟠The project aims to boost productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve agricultural incomes.
🟠Tanzania is the East African region's leading onion producer, with annual output exceeding 200,000 tonnes and export earnings of about $4.57 million per year.
🟠The country imports over 95% of its garlic, mainly from China, creating opportunities for local production.
"Our objective is to ensure farmers receive the right information at the right time so they can make informed decisions that improve productivity and household incomes," researcher Pamela Chogo said.
