South Africa to Launch Rooibos Seeds to ISS for Space Agriculture Research: Space Agency
The "Rooibos in Space" program has been rolled out in Cape Town, with the plant's seeds bound for the ISS in October, the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) said in a statement.
The seeds will endure weeks of microgravity and space radiation before returning to Earth for a comparative study on germination, growth, and resilience, according to the statement.
Then, students from seven schools and a college will lead the hands-on data collection and analysis, the statement noted.
The initiative aligns with global efforts to develop self-sustaining agricultural and life-support systems for future deep space exploration, the SANSA emphasized.
