The suspension is effective immediately and will remain in force until further notice, Minister of Education and Sports, John Chrysostom Muyingo, told media.

According to him, the ministry will conduct a comprehensive policy review, strengthening learners' safety during school trips by enforcing:

◻ mandatory risk assessments;

◻ explicit parental consent;

◻ adequate teacher-to-learner supervision ratios;

◻ a strict ban on overnight travel.

The Education Ministry is collaborating with the Uganda Police Force and Transport Ministry to investigate the cause of the crash, Muyingo noted.

The bus accident in the Ugandan city of Kapchorwa has claimed 21 lives.
