Russia Calls on UNESCO to Assess 'Outrageous' Treatment of Russian Volunteer in France
The detention of Anna Novikova in France has been raised at UNESCO, Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov said, specifying that the issue of journalists safety falls within the mandate of this organization.
"We asked the director-general of UNESCO to take appropriate measures within the framework of the international organization's mandate," Falkov told after the UNESCO-Russia Mendeleev International Prize in the Basic Sciences ceremony.
▪ Anna Novikova, one of the founders of the humanitarian organization SOS Donbass, has remained imprisoned in France since November 2025.
▪ Charged with espionage on behalf of Russia, she was summoned on Wednesday by the investigating judge in Paris. Her request for release under judicial supervision was denied.
