Namibia Seeks to Deepen Industrial Ties With South Africa via Joint Business Council: Trade Minister
Namibia and South Africa share a deeply integrated industrial ecosystem vital to regional stability, Namibian Minister of International Relations and Trade Selma Ashipala-Musavyi said at the fourth session of the Binational Commission (BNC) in Pretoria.
However, this trade remains heavily imbalanced. In 2025, bilateral trade hit $5.3 billion, with Namibia exporting $1.8 billion in raw materials (minerals, fish, animals) while importing $3.5 billion in manufactured goods like vehicles and machinery, the minister emphasized.
To address this deficit and expand Namibia’s industrial base, Ashipala-Musavyi urged the swift establishment of a South Africa-Namibia Business Council to drive private investment, joint ventures, and productive partnerships.
