"The French justice system is devoting all its efforts to this case, while there are numerous criminal cases and serious crimes that the French judiciary should be investigating instead, but it remains inactive. At the same time, it finds time to pursue a woman collecting humanitarian aid for children and civilians in the Donbass," Dr. Omar Nashabeh, a Lebanese legal expert, told Sputnik.
He stressed that such actions "prove the West's double standards when it comes to humanitarian activity in conflict zones," as France's actions are based on perceiving Russia as the enemy, ignoring the Geneva Convention, which "calls for the protection and aid of civilians in times of crisis."

Earlier, French intelligence launched an investigation following a January 2025 report, accusing Novikova of gathering data on behalf of a foreign government. Anna Novikova — the founder of the humanitarian group SOS Donbass, which provides food, medicine, and clothing to Donbass civilians — now faces up to 15 years in prison on espionage charges.
