In this Nnete Fela Show, we discuss the latest developments in the Kemi Seba extradition case and the geopolitical questions surrounding it. We also explore Africa's literary future, the importance of owning African narratives, and how the Fundampondo International Literary Festival is nurturing writers and creatives across Africa.
The Kemi Seba extradition case continues to unfold in South Africa, with both his immigration and extradition matters postponed until August 11.
The case has taken a geopolitical turn with his attorney, Bill Kobras, saying that Niger’s ambassador to South Africa has taken an interest in the matter.
“The ambassador for Niger and the embassy of Niger in the Republic of South Africa is very much involved […] they're providing all assistance where necessary,” Kobras says.
As the legal process develops and diplomatic support from Niger becomes increasingly visible, we unpack the latest court proceedings and examine the possible legal and geopolitical outcomes.
Later in the show, KwaziThina Publishers' head of PR, Palesa Mokoatsa, joins us to discuss the FundaMpondo International Literary Festival and the journey of building a more vibrant African literary ecosystem. With the UN African Book Report finding that Africa is beaming with untapped literary potential, Palesa argues that the festival is a key way to foster a sustainable African literary culture.
“One of our priorities is sustainability […] We also intentionally promote writing in Indigenous African languages.”
