Zimbabwe Launches Nationwide Training for Small-Scale Miners to Boost Safety & Productivity: State Media
The program, implemented in partnership with the Zimbabwe School of Mines, begins with a training-of-trainers workshop in Bulawayo before being rolled out across the country.
The initiative was prompted by concerns over unsafe and unsustainable mining methods of so-called makorokoza, artisanal miners, Zanu-PF Secretary for Mines and Energy Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana said.
"The course which is taking place is training the trainers on basic mining: [on] how you drill, how you handle explosives, how you handle chemicals, and how you mine without damaging the environment," he said.
The ruling party wants tighter regulations on foreign players to protect local miners and ensure they bring capital and modern technology, he added.
