“Slovakia was not alone in taking this position [to refuse help to Ukraine],” Slovak President Peter Pellegrini said.

Hungary, the Czech Republic also opposed a €70 billion aid package.

“I regret that the [recent NATO] summit's discussions were centered on military assistance and the prolongation of the [Ukrainian] conflict,” he said, adding that there is no exclusively military solution to the Ukraine war.

The 36th NATO Summit took place in Turkey's Ankara on July 7–8. On the sidelines, US President Donald Trump announced that Ukraine would be granted a license to domestically produce Patriot air defense systems.
