Sudan Court Sentences Rebel RSF Leader & Other Top Commanders to Death in Absentia
Rebel paramilitary leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo and 15 others, including his brother Abdelrahim Hamdan Dagalo, were convicted of war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and attacks on civilians.
The ruling is the first against the RSF leadership since the war began in April 2023.
Key details:
🟠The case: The killing of West Darfur governor Khamis Abbakar in June 2023, hours after he accused the RSF of attacks on civilians. Between 10,000 and 15,000 people, mostly Massalit, were killed in El‑Geneina during the violence.
🟠What's next: The court will refer the case to the Supreme Court and seek the arrest and extradition of the convicted through Interpol.
