Russian-African Diplomacy Aims to Boost Continent's Global Influence: Ethiopian Expert
Moscow's engagement with Africa is designed to help the continent become more self-reliant and to ensure that the continent's interests are "determined by its own people," according to Tilahun Liben, an Ethiopian international relations and diplomacy expert.
"Africa, which accounts for 25% of the world's population, does not even have a permanent seat on the UN Security Council," Liben told Sputnik Africa following Russian FM Sergey Lavrov's visit to the continent.
Key points from the expert:
🟠Lavrov's visit encompasses economic and military diplomacy, not just political engagement.
🟠Russia is a leader in nuclear energy and is keen to work with African countries and the AU on peaceful nuclear development.
🟠Moscow is playing a positive role in the fight against terrorism in regions of the continent facing security threats.
