Ethiopian PM Mourns Passing of Qatar's Former Emir, Hails His Role as Peacemaker
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was a wise leader who dedicated his efforts to strengthening peace and laying foundations for dialogue and negotiation, Abiy Ahmed said in a statement.
"His passing is a great loss for Africa and for the entire region," the PM said.
Ahmed highlighted the historical ties between the two nations, noting Sheikh Hamad's official visit to Ethiopia in April 2013 as a milestone that opened new avenues for cooperation and laid the groundwork for a strategic partnership.
The PM expressed confidence that the strong brotherly relations between Ethiopia and Qatar would continue to flourish under the leadership of the current Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
