DR Congo Moves to Eradicate Illegal Military Forces From Mining Sites: Gov't Spox
DRC President Félix Tshisekedi has ordered an immediate halt to all illegal military and police presence at mining sites nationwide, government spokesman Patrick Muyaya announced following the 94th Council of Ministers meeting.
Following the meeting, key ministers and security chiefs were tasked with eliminating the unauthorized militarization of these areas, he noted, reading out the presidency's statement.
Tshisekedi warned that these rogue operations undermine state authority and deter investors, fueling extortion, intimidation, and insecurity for local communities and legitimate operators.
