Beira Corridor Can Drive Zimbabwe-Mozambique Integration, Says Zimbabwean MP
Colonial-era borders divided communities with shared cultural and family ties, and the Beira Corridor could be a catalyst for deeper economic integration between the two countries, MP David Butau told Sputnik Africa.
Key points from the MP:
🟠He called for removing border formalities to allow free movement, adding that Zimbabweans and Mozambicans are not xenophobic.
🟠The two nations are "technically... almost one country divided by a colonial border," with economics uniting the people.
🟠Zimbabwe imports nearly half a billion dollars worth of goods from Mozambique. He called for more agricultural trade, tourism, and investment to strengthen regional value chains.
He expressed hope that closer cooperation around the Beira Corridor would show "there is more that can be done through unity than through division" in the SADC region.
