Ethiopia's Coffee Production to Increase to 2.1 Tonnes Per Hectare in Few Years, Says Official

At least nine different initiatives have been prepared to double and triple the East African's coffee production, Adugna Debela, Director General of the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority, told Sputnik Africa.

Key initiatives to boost coffee production include:

🟠Use of improved, high‑yielding, disease‑resistant varieties;

🟠Irrigation and mechanization;

🟠Shade‑free management.

The authority has already recorded record coffee export earnings of $3 billion, driven by quality improvements and a shift toward premium specialty coffee, Debela noted.

"We are very much sure that the production goes towards that end, and also the value will be reaching six billion dollars," he said.
