Sputnik Africa
On this Nnete Fela Show, we continue to discuss Lavrov’s multination tour of Africa. Additionally, we tackle the complex and heated debate over African migration with ANC Youth League President Colin Malatji, we unpack South Africa's new five-year development pact with the United Nations, and we discuss Marine Protected Areas Day with its founder.
We begin by breaking down Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's diplomatic tour through Ethiopia, Niger, Mozambique, and Burundi. Host Seakga Tladi provides his analysis of what this means for Moscow's long-term strategy, the push for African representation on the UN Security Council, potential continental nuclear energy cooperation, and the excellent news of a Russian mass-produced Ebola vaccine. We then sit down with ANC Youth League President Colin Malatji to confront the continent's migration crisis. We discuss the stalled AU Agenda 2063 Free Movement Protocol, the economic and neo-colonial root causes of forced migration, and how South Africa must balance border enforcement with regional economic integration.Malatji identifies the collapse of governance in African countries as well as neocolonial exploitation as major contributing factors in the immigration crisis.Later in the show, we examine the newly signed 2026-2030 cooperation framework between South Africa and the United Nations. This discussion features insights from UN Resident Coordinator Nelson Muffuh and Minister in the Presidency Maropene Ramokgopa. We end the show in the ocean, where we celebrate Marine Protected Areas (MPA) Day. Founder Dr. Judy Mann-Lang joins the show to discuss what it means for the initiative to win UN Ocean Decade endorsement and why protecting South Africa's deep-water ecosystems is vital for our own survival. All of this on today’s Nnete Fela Show.► Listen to all episodes of the Nnete Fela Show.► Check out this podcast on your favorite platforms: Apple Podcasts | Castbox | Deezer | Spotify | Pocket Casts | Podcast Addict | Afripods

Lavrov’s Tour, Fight for Borderless Continent, and UN Deals for South Africa
14:46 10.07.2026 (Updated: 18:26 17.07.2026) On this Nnete Fela Show, we continue to discuss Lavrov’s multination tour of Africa.
“Russia is ready to mass produce a vaccine against the new strain of Ebola, which is massive news,” Tladi says. “We've got a new strain of Ebola that is wreaking havoc in DRC as well as in parts of Uganda […] So if Russia is ready to mass produce a vaccine, that is a monumental development,” he continues.
We then sit down with ANC Youth League President Colin Malatji to confront the continent's migration crisis. We discuss the stalled AU Agenda 2063 Free Movement Protocol, the economic and neo-colonial root causes of forced migration, and how South Africa must balance border enforcement with regional economic integration.
Malatji identifies the collapse of governance in African countries as well as neocolonial exploitation as major contributing factors in the immigration crisis.
“You must restructure and collapse the colonial infrastructure for you to be able to achieve the borderless South Africa and address the issues of the economic structures of the world,” Malatji argues.
Later in the show, we examine the newly signed 2026-2030 cooperation framework between South Africa and the United Nations.
