Ethiopia's Ties With Russia Help Counter Western, Especially US, Influence, Says Ethiopian Scholar
"Russia is considered one of the major global powers and holds a veto in the UN Security Council. Having a good relation with Russia gives Ethiopia an opportunity to secure its political interests that would be discussed in the United Nations," Belay Beyene, senior lecturer at Jimma University, told Sputnik Africa.

🟠Citing Egypt's attempts to raise Nile water disputes at the UN, where the US has historically supported Cairo, he argued that Addis Ababa's diplomatic relationship with Moscow helps counterbalance such influence.
🟠Ethiopia has already benefited from this approach in the past and sees it as a viable strategy to safeguard its political interests, particularly regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, Beyene noted.
