Sudan's Rebel RSF Crimes in El Fasher Amount to Genocide, UN Probe Concludes
The militia committed mass killings, systematic rape, abductions, and starvation in a campaign against el Fasher that amounted to genocide, according to a new report by the UN Fact‑Finding Mission for Sudan.
Key findings:
🟠Survivors described being raped in rooms where the bodies of recently killed civilians—including their own family members—were still lying on the ground;
🟠The RSF imposed a prolonged siege, blocked relief supplies, and shelled food production systems as a deliberate starvation tactic;
🟠The report builds on a February finding that mass killings of non‑Arab communities in el Fasher bore "hallmarks of genocide."
"The international community must heed these lessons and act to prevent further catastrophe," said mission chair Mohamed Chande Othman.
Last week, UN human rights chief Volker Türk warned that a similar "catastrophe" is unfolding around el Obeid in North Kordofan, where RSF forces are massing.
