In this Nnete Fela Show, host Seakga Tladi unpacks Russian FM Sergey Lavrov’s strategic visit to Ethiopia and its impact on Africa's geopolitical future. Plus, we explore South Africa’s innovation landscape with the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists.
We begin by decoding Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's strategic visit to Ethiopia. Tladi unpacks the multi-decade implications of a potential Russia-Ethiopia nuclear power partnership.

"Nuclear deals lock two countries into partnership for generations, which is exactly why this matters," Tladi says. "It says a great deal about how Ethiopia sees its long-term relationship with Moscow," he adds.

We also analyze the dense 21-point joint statement between Russia and the African Union, exploring crucial topics like UN Security Council reform, multilateral debt relief, and the groundwork being laid for the upcoming October 2026 Russia-Africa Summit.

"The Russia-Africa summit is coming up […] It's going to be very important for the African Union to get its agenda straight as to what the African Union wants as it collaborates with Russia," he continues.

Later in the show, we shift focus from continental politics to local industrialization and problem-solving. Raven Motsewabangwe, the Gauteng Provincial Coordinator for the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists, joins the show to discuss the incredible, university-level research being produced by South African school students.
"We are seeing learners actually being on par with what the requirements of a university students would be […] that's a beautiful thing," Motswebangwe opines.
