Venezuela earthquake death toll rises to 3,342

The death toll from the devastating twin earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to 3,342, with 16,740 people injured, National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez said.

The magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes struck several regions of the country on June 24, only 39 seconds apart, in what has been described as a seismic doublet.

Venezuelan authorities said La Guaira, the hardest-hit region, has been declared a disaster zone.

Rescue and recovery efforts continue as Venezuela faces one of the most tragic natural disasters in its recent history.
