Comoros Celebrates Independence Day
On July 6th, 1975, the country proclaimed itself a sovereign state, freeing itself from French colonial rule.
🟠The Comoros archipelago consists of three main islands: Ngazidja (Grande Comore), Nzwani (Anjouan), and Mwali (Mohéli). Mayotte, the fourth island, is a French overseas territory.
🟠Mount Karthala, one of Africa's largest active volcanoes, is located in the Comoros. Reaching a height of 2,561 meters, its last eruption was in January 2007.
🟠 The country is among the world's largest producers of ylang-ylang oil (some 80% of global supply). The flowers of this tree are widely used in perfume making.
