Mumbwa Solar Power Project Set to Increase Zambia’s Electricity Supply by 350 MW

The $305 million project by the Zambian state-owned power company has already generated 650 direct jobs, ZESCO Chief Operating Officer Fitzpatrick Kapepe said.

Mumbwa was chosen for its resource potential and proximity to a substation, enabling efficient power transmission to Lusaka and beyond, he noted.

"The Mumbwa Solar Power Project is expected to play a key role in strengthening Zambia’s energy security, expanding renewable energy generation, and supporting long-term economic growth and development," ZESCO noted in a statement.

Construction is approximately 90% complete, with the first phase and initial phase to be commissioned by the end of July 2026, Project Assistant Manager William Mutawa said.
