Tanzanian, Mozambican Presidents Rally Africa to Fast-Track Continental Free Trade Area for Economic Freedom
At the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (Sabasaba), Presidents Samia Suluhu Hassan and Daniel Francisco Chapo urged African nations to move beyond political independence and pursue economic liberation through industrialization, trade, and investment.
Key points from the address:
🟠Chapo: "If our founders conquered political freedom, it is up to us to conquer economic freedom." He called for investments in transport, energy, digital connectivity, and regional logistics to make the AfCFTA a reality.
🟠Hassan said historic liberation ties must now translate into "increased production, trade, investment, industrialization, employment, transport, and greater prosperity."
🟠Tanzania's merchandise exports exceeded $10 billion over the past year, with gold exports up 35% to over $4.4 billion.
🟠Over 50 years, the fair has facilitated over $49.2 billion in business, hosted 38,000 companies from 54 countries, and created more than 631,000 jobs.
🟠This year's edition targets $6.5 million in deals, 4,800 exhibitors, and 26,000 new jobs.
