Tanzanian Economy Continues to Show Strong Growth Momentum in First Half of 2026: Central Bank Governor

Mainland Tanzania's real GDP growth is estimated at around 6% in H1 2026, driven by agriculture, construction, mining, financial services, and transport, while Zanzibar's economy grew by 6.6%, boosted by tourism and construction, Emmanuel Tutuba announced.

Key details:

🟠Private-sector credit grew at an average rate of 24%, reflecting strong demand from productive sectors.

🟠Banks remain resilient, with a non-performing loan ratio of 2.9%, well below the 5% threshold.

🟠Domestic revenue is projected to reach 16.8% of GDP in 2025/2026, up from 15.6% last year.

Despite global uncertainties linked to the Middle East conflict, the outlook remains positive, supported by strong fundamentals and prudent policy management, Tutuba said.
