Ethnic Targeting, Mass Killings: Rights Group Details Rebel RSF Militia Atrocities in Sudan's El Fasher
Murder, torture, rape, sexual slavery, and the deliberate targeting of children are detailed in a new international report on the paramilitary group's 18‑month siege of El Fasher in North Darfur.
Evidence gathered "may be relevant to the crime of genocide," the rights group added.
Other key findings:
🟠Victims were often targeted because of their ethnic identity, with Arab fighters going after non‑Arab communities.
🟠Children were "deliberately targeted" and killed, injured, raped, abducted, and forcibly recruited on a massive scale.
🟠The report draws on accounts from over 200 survivors and reviews 89 videos and satellite imagery.
Amnesty Secretary General Agnès Callamard called the atrocities "a stain on the conscience of humanity" and urged an immediate ceasefire and the deployment of an international force to protect civilians.
The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF has killed hundreds of thousands, displaced over 14 million, and left 28 million facing acute hunger, according to the UN, which had previously warned that El Fasher bore the "hallmarks of genocide."
