Public Gatherings Banned in Kinshasa, While Situation is Stable in Uganda: Update on Ebola
Political rallies, demonstrations, and other types of gatherings have been banned in the Congolese capital, as well as in the provinces of Tshopo, Haut-Uélé, and Bas-Uélé, local media reported, citing the Congolese minister of the interior.
The measure aims to limit physical contact in order to curb the spread of the Ebola virus.
According to the latest update as of June 28, published by the Ministry of Communication and Media:
▪ The number of confirmed cases in the DRC has reached 1,307;
▪ 377 deaths have been recorded, bringing the fatality rate to 28.8%;
▪ 615 people remain in isolation or in the hospital;
▪ 180 people have recovered.
Uganda has a total of 20 confirmed cases and two deaths, according to the country's Ministry of Health:
▪ Since the beginning of June, the fatality rate has remained stable.
▪ 15 people have recovered and 3 patients remain hospitalized.
