Nigeria's Health Insurance Enrollment Hits 22M, Health System Ranks 4th in Africa: Ministry
The number of insured Nigerians has grown by 37.5% over the past three years, while the country's health system stays behind only South Africa, Tunisia and Kenya, coordinating minister of health and social welfare Muhammad Ali Pate said at the 15th committee on the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund.
Key achievements under the health reforms:
🟠$170 million released in the last three years allowed over 8,000 primary healthcare centers to receive direct facility financing;
🟠Encouraging improvements are seen in antenatal care, skilled birth attendance, immunization, and child health;
🟠Over 48,000 women have received free emergency obstetric care, and emergency services have reached more than 130,000 Nigerians;
🟠The fund supported preparedness funding for all 36 states to strengthen Ebola readiness.
