DRC Takes Rwanda to ICJ Over Decades-Long 'Abuses': Statement
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has filed an application on Friday, accusing Rwanda of "a campaign of genocide and serious, widespread human rights violations" from 1996 to the present day, according to the ICJ's press release.
"These abuses [...] waged by the Rwandan authorities in eastern Zaire, and subsequently in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, have primarily targeted Hutus present on Zairian, and subsequently Congolese, territory following the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994."
According to the DRC, the abuses were also directed against such ethnic groups:
🟠the Nyindu,
🟠the Bembe,
🟠the Lega,
🟠the Nande,
🟠the Hunde,
🟠the Bashi.
Rwanda has long denied supporting rebel groups in the DRC.
