IGAD Regional Cyber Drill Kicks Off in Addis Ababa

Information Network Security Administration (INSA) announced the launch of a five-day regional cyber drill aimed at strengthening cybersecurity capacity and preventing cross-border attacks across East Africa.

As digital technologies increasingly drive regional cooperation, securing digital development is essential to addressing current and future challenges, INSA Director Tigist Hamid, who inaugurated the exercise, stated.

The drill focuses on key areas:

▪ Joint engagement on policy and strategic issues

▪ Building technical capacity by identifying vulnerabilities and enabling rapid response

▪ National cybersecurity exercises to prevent attacks on telecommunications, finance, and infrastructure

▪ Continental cybersecurity exercises involving coordinated defense against ransomware and misinformation campaigns

Organized under the Eastern Africa Regional Digital Integration Project, the platform brings together cybersecurity institutions from regional member states, legal and regulatory bodies, and key infrastructure authorities, according to INSA.
