Ethiopia Seeks UAE Port Partnership to Address Landlocked Challenges

Addis Ababa must work more closely with the UAE to address its port and infrastructure needs, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's advisor on Eastern Africa affairs, Getachew Reda, said at the opening of the first African edition of the "Hili UAE-Africa Dialogue" in Addis Ababa.

"Ethiopia faces critical challenges due to its landlocked position," he noted, emphasizing the importance of joint investment to overcome the hurdles.

🟠The two-day forum, co-hosted by Ethiopia's Institute of Foreign Affairs, the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research, and the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, aims to strengthen UAE-Africa cooperation and explore new partnership opportunities.

🟠The UAE has built strong trade and investment relations with Ethiopia based on trust, said Institute of Foreign Affairs Executive Director Jafar Bedru, announcing the signing of an MoU between the institute and the diplomatic academy.

🟠UAE Chargé d'Affaires Rashid Abdullah described the relationship as a partnership built on lasting friendship and mutual benefit.

🟠The UAE is currently working with Ethiopia on port development in Berbera, as well as on corridor and railway infrastructure, Reda highlighted.
