Africa Must Master Nuclear Knowledge—Not Just Import Reactors, Says Nigerian Youth Leader
Russia is successfully training students from Africa, but the focus remains largely theoretical, president of the African Young Generation in Nuclear Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu told Sputnik on the sidelines of the IV International Youth Nuclear Forum Obninsk NEW 2026.
There is a need to create internship, fellowship and training corridors to bridge the gap between theory and real-world application, he stressed.
Furthermore, Aliyu cited financing as a key challenge to realizing nuclear initiatives on the continent and expressed hope that African development banks would step in to fund such projects.
June 26 marks the 72nd anniversary of the commissioning of the world's first nuclear power plant in Obninsk, Russia's renowned Science City near Moscow.
ℹ Held Friday, the Obninsk NEW forum brings together 500+ youth from 70 countries and 10 delegations to learn how young people are transforming the nuclear industry and what joint projects can emerge.
