Zimbabwe & Southern Africa Poised to Benefit from Global Shift to Premium Tourism: Safari Association
The region is uniquely positioned to benefit from a shift toward immersive, high‑value travel experiences, said Safari Operators Association of Zimbabwe president Emmanuel Fundira.
Nearly 28% of Zimbabwe's land is protected, featuring Victoria Falls, Matobo Hills, Hwange, and Mana Pools, alongside large elephant and black rhino populations, according to Fundira.
The country's cultural heritage, including Great Zimbabwe and Shona stone sculpting, adds to its appeal, he noted.
"Southern Africa's greatest tourism advantage is not what it has, but how much of its potential remains untapped," the official said.
Global tourism is valued at $9.9 trillion, with Southern Africa contributing $68.5 billion—a relatively low base that represents a "significant opportunity," Fundira noted.
Turning potential into gains will require cross‑border collaboration, infrastructure investment, and stronger public‑private partnerships, he stressed.
