Zambia Records Lowest Inflation Rate in Eight Years: Statistician-General
Zambia's inflation rate has fallen to its lowest point since early 2018, Zambian Statistician-General Sheila Mudenda told reporters.
In June, consumer prices experienced a year-on-year increase of 6.5%, a slight decrease from 6.6% in May, she noted.
Additionally, the economy exhibited impressive growth, expanding by 7.7% in the first quarter of 2026, up from just 1.6% in the previous quarter, Mudenda emphasized.
According to reports, key factors contributing to this decline in inflation include:
🟠a surge in copper prices, (Zambia is Africa’s second largest producer);
🟠a 22% appreciation of the national currency against the dollar;
🟠a reduction in food inflation, which fell to 6.7%.
