At Least 355 Arrested in Kenya During Protests Marking Anniversary of Anti-Finance Bill: Interior Ministry
▪ Over 160 protesters were detained in the capital, Nairobi, Kipchumba Murkomen, Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, told reporters.
▪ Police reportedly used tear gas to disperse the crowds in Nairobi.
▪ Local media reported the arrest of numerous prominent activists and bloggers across the country.
▪ Despite the detentions, Murkomen commended Kenyans for maintaining peace, highlighting the absence of widespread looting or vandalism.
▪ While the situation was relatively calm across the country, a few criminal elements attempted to commit diverse crimes in guise of staging peaceful demonstrations, according to the official.
