Russia's Superjet Takes Off With Homegrown PD-8 Engines as Production Begins

The state corporation Rostec has started assembling the first batch of PD-8 engines for the Superjet, a key milestone in Russia's push to phase out foreign-made components in its aviation industry.

What makes the PD-8 stand out:

🟠Fully domestic turbofan engine built with advanced Russian materials

🟠Developed in just six years – half the usual global industry timeframe

🟠Incorporates 17 new technological breakthroughs

President Putin highlighted that Russia now joins the US, UK, and France as one of only four nations with a full‑cycle aircraft engine manufacturing capability.

The PD‑8 follows the PD‑14, already powering the MC‑21, and the 177S fifth‑generation engine for Su‑57 fighter jets, underscoring Russia's growing self‑reliance in aero‑engine technology.
