Burkina Faso Cancels EU Envoy's Appointments After European Parliament Resolution
During a visit to Ouagadougou, where he was scheduled to meet with several high-ranking Burkinabe officials, João Cravinho had all of his appointments canceled by Burkinabe authorities, according to local media.
The decision is said to follow the European Parliament’s adoption on June 18 of a resolution accusing Burkina Faso of human rights violations.
In response, Burkina Faso’s foreign minister summoned the European Union ambassador to express the government’s “disapproval, disappointment, and disgust.”
No official statement has yet been issued by the Burkinabè authorities.
