Zimbabwe Aims for Fertilizer Self‑Sufficiency in Three Years as Global Supply Disruptions Bite: Ministry

Utilizing its vast coal reserves, the country is accelerating domestic production to secure agricultural inputs, the finance ministry announced.

The government is promoting investment in local manufacturing to build industrial capacity, a move highlighted during Finance Minister Prof. M. Ncube's visit to a plant in China, where equipment is being built for a new Norton facility.

"Part of the equipment has already been delivered, and the rest is expected to be delivered to Zimbabwe within the next month," the ministry said.

Once self‑sufficient, Zimbabwe plans to scale up production and export surplus fertilizer across the region, positioning itself as a competitive supplier in Southern Africa, the ministry added.
