Liberia & Sierra Leone Pioneer Global South's First Joint Tax Audits to Block Cross-Border Evasion: ECOWAS
The MoU on Simultaneous Tax Examinations between Sierra Leone and Liberia became the first in the Global South, marking a significant regional milestone and setting a powerful precedent for international tax cooperation, ECOWAS said.
According to media reports, the initiative is expected to target:
cross-border tax evasion;
transfer pricing issues;
unreported income;
illicit financial flows.
The agreement also establishes procedures for:
selecting cases;
conducting joint planning;
coordinating audit activities;
protecting taxpayer rights.
