United for Peace: DRC and Burundi Boost Military Cooperation in Kinshasa—Statement
Presidents Félix Tshisekedi and Évariste Ndayishimiye moved to reinforce peace, stability, and cooperation across the Great Lakes region and in the east of the DRC, the Burundian presidency said in a statement.
Other key points from their talks in the Congolese capital:
🟠Economic & Bilateral Ties: To boost mutual growth, the two nations agreed to revitalize the Grand Joint Commission for Cooperation. This move aims to expand strategic partnerships in trade, infrastructure, energy, and education.
🟠Fighting Ebola: Addressing the resurgence of the Bundibugyo Ebola strain in three eastern provinces, the presidents emphasized the urgent need for enhanced cross-border surveillance and a coordinated health response to contain the virus.
Tshisekedi speaks about security issues in the region during a joint briefing with his Burundian counterpart Ndayishimiye.
