1.4 million kilograms of sesame have been sold at prices ranging between $0.60 and $1 per kg, according to the Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA).

AMA has introduced new regulations requiring contractors to register and sign agreements with farmers while imposing penalties on smugglers.

Sesame farming has grown 264% since 2018/19 to 62,259 hectares. Export earnings rose to $3.8 million last year, up from just $85,443 in 2019.

Mozambique was the largest buyer, followed by South Africa and Zambia.
