Niger Officially Submits Its Request to Withdraw From ICC
The decision "stems from the observation that while the court had raised great hopes among peoples who cherish peace and justice, it has been misused and exploited," Niamey said.
In accordance with the provisions of the Rome Statute, the country's withdrawal will take effect on June 18, 2027—one year after the UN Secretary-General receives the notification. The Secretary-General registered Niger’s request on June 18.
In September 2025, Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso—united under the AES Confederation—described the ICC as "an instrument of neocolonial repression in the hands of imperialism" and announced their joint intention to leave the court.
