South Sudan to Hold First General Elections Since Independence in 2011: Media
South Sudan will hold its first general elections on December 22, 2026, the National Elections Commission announced, according to local media.
The vote is to include presidential, parliamentary, regional, and local government elections. The presidential race will follow a two-round system, with a runoff if no candidate secures an absolute majority.
The incumbent president Salva Kiir has reportedly announced his candidacy.
ℹ Elections in the country have been repeatedly postponed due to the 2013–2018 civil war and subsequent transitional periods.
